“Labour and Weight: A travelling exhibition’’ is a site specific artistic research and collaborative production between 4 artists. The project which is a beneficiary of CENDANA’s Art In The City Public Art Commissioning Programme 2020 (Cycle 2), looks into the manual labours of traditional shipbuilders and fishery industry at 3 different coastal areas on the straits of Malacca. The conversation of the project extended through fellow collaborators Lee Mok Yee, Yeo Lyle, Okui Lala, Cheng Gaik to look into the repetitive act of the laborious work, its bodily memories and the wisdom of building a ship.

The project starts with a short residency, exhibition and sharing session at Pulau Pangkor. The work will move to Kampung Segenting, Batu Pahat, and Hin Bus Depot, Pulau Pinang. The final venue will be a concluding exhibition at a community stage in Pulau Pangkor.
